Web Hosting: What happens if I exceed my space or bandwidth quotas?

That varies from hosting provider to hosting provider.

Some will suspend your account if you go over your disk space limit or monthly bandwidth quota, while others will let you off with a warning.

You should be aware, though, that some companies will charge you expensive overage fees for exceeding their limits. When that happens, you may have a nasty surprise waiting for you when you open next month’s bill.

Here at Site5, most of our shared services (HostBasic, HostPro, and HostPro+Turbo) provide unlimited bandwidth and storage space. For more information regarding your specific service type, please see the service product page, or feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!

  • What happens if I exceed my bandwidth quotas on a VPS account?
I would like to know the answer for managed and unmanaged VPS services that you provide.

    Thanks!

    • Hi Rod,

In that case, traffic to your sites on the VPS – managed or unmanaged – will be redirected to a Bandwidth Exceeded page. Our Server Health team should get an alert when you are approaching your bandwidth limit, and send you a notice with your options. This is not guaranteed, however, and it is a good idea for you to keep track of this, as well.

If you do exceed your bandwidth limit, an upgrade to a higher VPS plan would be needed.
