Domain Transfer: GoDaddy
This demo assumes you have a domain name registered through godaddy.com, and starts from their home page
Now let’s learn how to transfer your domain name away from this registrar, and into the domain registry of your choice
Domain name transfers must be initiated at the new registrars website…. that is, the website for the domain registrar where you want your domain name transferred to
However, you must first ensure that your domain name is not locked, or being prevented from being transferred out of this registry….. and that’s what we’re going to do now…..
1) Enter your GoDaddy.com account Login Name and Password in the boxes here
2) Then click the Go button
You are now logged in to your GoDaddy.com account
3) Click the Domain Manager link here
4) Then click on the domain name you wish to manage
5) Click the Manage link next to “Locked”
6) Uncheck the box next to Lock Domains
7) Click OK when finished
Next, click the Send by Email option next to Authorization Code.
That’s it! The lock has been removed from the domain name and you should have revived a copy of the authorization code. It can now be transferred to Site5!
You can now logon to Backstage and request the domain transfer!

Wondering how long it would take for my domain to transfer from Goddady to Site5? I have accepted the transfer and was rather curious.
Anthony Licursi at Site5 January 14, 2013 at 9:20 am
Hi Joshua,
It shouldn’t take more than a few days at most, sometimes it will take just a few hours. Once you get an email asking you to approve the transfer, it should only take up to a day or two for it to be fully transferred. If you have any questions, please contact our Hostmaster team via Backstage!

After the transfer of domain to Site5, will the renewal charges remain same as what I pay to Go-daddy? or will there be any change?
James Davey November 8, 2013 at 10:22 am
Hello Balu,
Not necessarily, no. Once it is transferred to us, any renewal fees would be in line with our normal domain registration/renewal fees, which would be $12/year.

if I transfer a domain from godaddy to site5, does the registration expiration year and day stay the same, or do I have to renew immediately when the transfer is complete? If I’ve prepaid for several years of registration, do those years transfer also?
James Davey November 19, 2013 at 9:00 am
Hi David,
Transferring a domain from one registrar to another should bring any remaining years with it, while adding another on. The renewal date should automatically change to the date the transfer was completed.

How do I set a domain to go to a site5 IP address without actually transferring the domain away from godaddy? I would like to do renewals, etc through them.
James Davey December 17, 2013 at 7:39 pm
Hi Ross,
That would require adjusting DNS settings within GoDaddy – not the nameservers, but the actual DNS records. You would need to change the A record and MX records only – you may want to contact GoDaddy directly on how to do that.
