Domains: How does Domain Privacy work?

Comments Off on Domains: How does Domain Privacy work?

Domain privacy allows your private information to remain just that, private. It prevents you address, number, email address, and other private information out of the hands of the public WHOIS database. In turn, this prevents people doing WHOIS searches on your domain from getting your real contact information.

The way domain privacy works is the registrar provides information masking. For example, if your real email address is [email protected], the registrar will normally provide a public email address similar to the following, your_domain.com@registrar .com  and in turn, any emails sent to the public address will be forwarded to your personal (and now private) [email protected] email address.

The same concept applies to mailing address and phone numbers.
