Email: Error: 550 – Quota Exceeded

You will receive a quota exceeded bounce back message when you attempt to email someone that has a full mailbox. Until the user makes space in their mailbox, or the quota has been increased, you will be unable to send them any messages. Below is what a version of the bounce back could look like.

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

[email protected]

SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<[email protected]>:

host site5demo.com [174.120.241.66]: 550 Mailbox quota exceeded

With some providers, you will have to click the on an attachment to read the error.

If you are the administrator for the account, you can increese the quota by following the instructions in this article.

If all the email accounts are receiving a quota exceeded message, your actual hosting account could be at its quota limit. If this is the case, you can try deleting files from your hosting account to see if that resolves the issue. For more information on how to check your hosting account usage, please see this article.

If you are still having issues after making the change, please contact our support team.

  • I am not receiving email at my email address [email protected]. This is on my site 5 server. This email address is set up as unlimited. The bounce back message says my mailbox is full.

    • Hi George,

I’ve taken a quick peek, and I see no space issues on your account. Can you open a support ticket through BackStage on this, describing the issue and providing a full bounceback message?
